INPG Seed Swap '18 - Spokane

Event date:
Saturday, February 24, 2018 - 10:00am to Sunday, February 25, 2018 - 1:45pm

INPG Seed Swap PosterFREE and Open to the Public.

Community Building 35 W Main Ave. Spokane

Just walk around and trade seed and some will be for sale.

Optional tables will be available for participants to display their goods. A $10 per table donation is suggested.

~We are asking for strong and pure seed. This means no GMO, no treated seed. We are hoping for Heirloom & Organic. By this we mean varieties that are adapted to our climate and have been stable for many generations. How many generations is up for grabs. Sharing seed with your community is an excellent opportunity to share quality seed stock and learn how to be self-reliant.

After the Seed Swap, at 2:30, we'll have a meeting, same place, of Spokane Permaculture that anyone is invited to attend.

Why is seed swapping important?

It maintains age-old skills
It keeps a diversity of locally adapted varieties alive
It resists the privatization of plant genetic material
It keeps seed making in the garden and out of the laboratory
It gets round the counter-productive aspects of the National List, which even the government admits are daft
It helps protect biodiversity
Not to mention introducing you to other local gardeners, cementing a sense of community and saving you money. Not bad for something you can do in your back garden!
